Zilker Park access during ACL

Last checked: October 11, 2026, 6:30 a.m. CDT (the City's park closure notice and its October 9 Parks and Recreation release). Road and nearby-facility notices were last checked October 6, 2026. This guide describes posted plans, not an on-site inspection. Check the linked City notices before traveling; follow signs, barriers and staff directions.

What can you use?

The City’s park closure notice lists these amenities as remaining open during September and October 2026:

The City’s ACL event page uses broad ticket-only park-access wording. Its more specific parks notice names the open amenities above. Do not treat those exceptions as permission to enter the festival grounds.

When can you return to the Great Lawn?

After the festival, reported by the City on October 9: Once organizers finish post-event load-out, the City says, portions of the Great Lawn will remain closed so crews can restore nutrients to the soil and trees and relieve compaction from festival traffic. Sections will reopen as work allows. The customary partial closure for Parks and Recreation's annual maintenance window and the Trail of Lights stays in effect. The City says its goal is to reopen the lawn on a timeframe similar to previous years, and that organizers have committed to restore the lawn and nearby areas to their previous condition or better "at no cost to taxpayers." Reopening updates are posted at AustinTexas.gov/parkclosures. Read the City's October 9 release.

Between the two weekends, the City says, crews pulled up temporary turf, removed trash and buried hardware, cleared mulch from stage areas, leveled ruts with rollers, aerated the lawn, inspected irrigation and began watering.

The sources checked for this guide do not confirm a Great Lawn reopening date. The City lists a scheduled closure from September 21 through October 18. That posted end date is not a guarantee that the lawn will be ready for public use immediately afterward.

The organizer’s 2026 neighborhood letter, published by the Barton Hills Neighborhood Association, places festival load-out through October 18 and further lawn maintenance afterward. Its map lists October 19–30 for maintenance, while the preceding text contains a date typo. Neither establishes a confirmed public reopening date.

Getting there: streets and parking

According to the City’s street and parking closure schedule:

Source conflicts: The organizer’s road map and text give different closure endpoints; this guide uses the City’s posted Barton Springs Road schedule. City sources disagree on the October 12 Stratford Drive reopening time (6 a.m. in the park notice and 6 p.m. in the mobility guide). Both list October 5 at 6 a.m.; this guide does not give one as a confirmed reopening time and does not confirm either reopening on site. For current route details, consult the City’s ACL Mobility Guide and posted traffic controls.

Nearby facilities have separate schedules

These facility dates do not establish when the Great Lawn reopens.

What is known about lawn restoration?

In its October 3 report on the muddy Great Lawn, an Austin Parks and Recreation spokesperson told KXAN that temporary mulch would be removed after the festival and damaged sod replaced. That is an attributed restoration plan, not confirmation that work is complete. The sources checked here do not settle the lawn’s reopening date or final repair cost.

Between-weekend plans, reported October 5: KXAN’s report attributes to ACL Festival plans to bring in extra resources to remove temporary turf and ground protection, limit activity on the grounds before the second weekend, and meet with Austin Parks and Recreation daily about restoration after the event. KXAN reports that a grounds assessment was underway. This does not establish completed work, a completed inspection, a public reopening date or final repair costs.

City statement update, checked October 6: The updated KXAN report attributes to a Monday-night City statement daily turf-health and drainage work with event organizers, City oversight of a multi-stage rehabilitation process and provisions for reimbursing staff time and restoration costs. The statement says sections will reopen as work allows, with a partial closure for Trail of Lights. These are attributed plans and obligations, not a verified public reopening date or final bill; the contract limits and unverified annual documents below still apply.

Contract section reviewed: October 5, 2026, 8:17 a.m. CDT. Access notices above have their separately stated check time.

The publicly posted redacted City–C3 agreement, linked by Austin Free Press, bears August 29, 2025 signatures. Under §2.C (page 2), C3 pays for remediation required by the parks director, except damage to the extent caused by the City or its officers, directors, employees, agents or representatives. Under §5.A.1 (pages 6–7), the director determines damage, C3’s responsibility and reasonable repair costs.

The base agreement has a December 31, 2040 end date (§2.D), but each festival needs an event permit and annual scope of work (§2.B/E). A scope can expressly override particular agreement terms (§2.F). An executed 2026 scope, applicable amendments, completed 2026 inspection and final repair bill remain unverified here. This publicly posted copy cannot establish this year’s full obligations, what was paid or when the lawn will reopen.

We will recheck these notices during the Bulletin’s regular daily editorial review while the closures remain relevant.
