Austin Council on October 8: three questions worth following
Reviewed October 5, 2026. The official records list these three items as Agenda Ready, with no final action recorded. These are selected pending proposals for the October 8 meeting, not the complete agenda or a prediction of Council's decisions.
Will Council advance housing near Lost Creek, and with what conditions?
Item 29 concerns about 15.5 acres in District 8, west of South Capital of Texas Highway and south of Lost Creek Boulevard. The staff report describes a proposed development of approximately 475 homes on a site now occupied by offices and a parking garage.
Staff recommends LR-based DB90 zoning. Its report describes a 70-foot maximum under that combination of zoning and density-bonus rules; DB90's name does not mean a 90-foot limit in this case. The draft ordinance would prohibit service-station use. Development using the density bonus would also have to satisfy its affordability requirements.
An opposition petition is included in the case materials. Council has previously postponed the case, and the posted ordinance remains an unsigned draft. A zoning vote would not approve a site plan or construction, or guarantee that 475 homes will be delivered. The final design, housing mix and construction timing would require later evidence.
What to check after October 8: the actual motion and vote, any changed conditions, how many readings were approved, or a new postponement date. If zoning becomes final, follow the subsequent site-plan record.

Why seek easements for Eubank Tributary work?
Item 24 would authorize eminent-domain proceedings and payment for property interests needed for a stream-stabilization project. Staff describes erosion affecting property, infrastructure and habitat along Walnut Creek's Eubank Tributary, between North Bend Drive and the west turn of Eubank Drive.
The request covers a 4,185-square-foot access easement and 7,886-square-foot drainage easement at 11630 North Lamar Boulevard, owned by the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation. Staff says the City and owner have not agreed on the acquisition's value. The two interests are collectively appraised at $50,548, subject to a higher amount through updated appraisals, an award, settlement or judgment.
This is proposed authority to pursue the property interests. Acquisition, final compensation and construction timing remain unsettled.
What to check after October 8: whether Council adopts the resolution, any changed property interests or payment authority, and then a later acquisition or condemnation result. Authorization alone would not establish a completed purchase or a final price.

What comes next for ATXFloods?
Item 9 proposes a contract with The Sanborn Map Company to develop, implement and support ATXFloods, the public website for low-water-crossing cameras, flooding information and dangerous road conditions. The platform serves Austin and participating partner communities.
The proposed initial two-year term is estimated at $685,647. Three optional one-year extensions bring the total contract ceiling to $1,212,200. Sanborn would be a new provider; staff says the current contract expires January 29, 2028. The packet does not establish a public launch or transition date.
What to check after October 8: Council's authorization, provider and terms. An executed contract and an announced implementation schedule would be needed before reporting a rollout; a vote would not make an updated platform live.
